New York: Harper & Brothers, 1867. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. J. Ross Browne. Hardcover/ no DJ, VG condition- esp. considering age. Appears to be First Edition, c. 1867 (same year on title page); 1st printing- no note of further ones. 542 pages + 8 pgs adverts., 7.5 x 5"", numerous engravings by author; describes his travels in Russia, Scandinavia & Iceland. Brown pebble-grain cloth binding, covers w/ beveled edges, all edges of text block gilt (though dulled), sewn text block. Binding square w/ bit of soil, rubbing & edge wear. Minor fray at ends of spine & cover corners. NO sun discolor. Blind-stamped ""HB"" logo on covers & all gold spine lettering/ flower decoration crisp & intact. Brown endpapers & text tight, all stitching intact. Old owner last name, dated ""Phila, 1867"", lightly pencilled on 2nd blank page. Text lightly toned w/ small & minor scattered age spots. NOT ex library. Overall well preserved copy- displays very nicely.
