New York: Harper & Brothers, 1882. 441pp Vol 1, 474pp Vol 2. Blue boards with gilt titles and red birds on spine. Large gilt sunburst and red birds on front board and red birds on back board. Striking early Art Deco presentation. Small faded patches on spine. Volume 1 binding is tight and secure, with wear to top and bottom spine ends, including mild fraying. Hinge on inside cover beginning to show in Volume 1. Foxing to second inside page. Interior contents are clean and unmarked beyond that, aside from a small stain rubbed across the upper corner of page 14. Pocket on back pasted down endpaper contains map of Scandinavia. Vol. 2 shows fading and small stains to front cover, white rubbed patch along upper spine, shelfwear on spine ends. Small, circular water stain on top of page ends from about pages 270-395. Faint water damage to top of back board and along top of final 17 pages in back of book. Du Chaillu chronicles his late 19th century travels in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Lapland, with plates (119 woodcuts total) illustrating his journey throughout the two volumes. . First Edition. Hardcover. Good+.
