About This Item
London: Houlston and Stoneman , 1845. Inscribed on verso of title page in volume 1 '' Emily Jane Budd from her ever affectionate M. M. Sherwod, July 3rd , 1849 ''. It seems as if Emily Jane Budd (1841-1927), was the sister of Dr Herbert Goldingham Budd (1843-1902), of Worcester, and aunt of Herbert Hayward Budd, also a doctor who worked with leprosy patients in Robben Island, South Africa. She would have been 9 when MM Sherwood (also of Worcester) gave her this children's book. Three volumes only, volumes 1,2 & 3, mixed editions, volume 1 & 3 fifth edition, printed 1845, volume 2 fourth edition, printed 1841. Bound in uniform period embossed cloth. Bindings have been refurbished at some time. All 3 bindings in good clean firm condition. Internally, pages clean throughout. A nice part set. . Signed by Author. Very Good. 8vo.
