The spine designs are embossed in gilt, along with the Volume Number "10." The binding is worn and bumped but quite sound. Corners bumped. Endpapers foxed. The text is foxed and has some foxing at the top edge of the text block as well as at the bottom corners. This is Volume 10 of the Writings of Mrs. Sherwood. Of that set it is Volume 2 of the 4 volume set of "The Lady of the Manor." There is an engraved frontispiece and an engraved title page for the works as a whole. Otherwise not an illustrated work. Mary Martha [Butt] Sherwood (1775-1851) was an English writer of Children's books.
