The DJ shows overall rubbing to the panels; moderate wear to the extremities; a quarter inch split at the lower corner tip; unclipped. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 4to. (10.95 x 7.25 x 1 inches). 243 pages. Liberally illustrated with duotone and sepia toned photographs and other images; two illuminated manuscript pages in color. Language: Old Czech. Weight: 28 ounces. Decorated Endpapers. Light grey buckram over boards with brown designs at the panels and brown titles at the backstrip. Hardback with DJ. The Chronicle of Dalimil (Czech: Kronika tak receného Dalimila) is the first chronicle written in the Old Czech language. It was composed in verse by an unknown author at the beginning of the 14th century. The Chronicle compiles information from older Czech chronicles written in Latin and also the author's own experiences. The chronicle finishes before 1314, but it is usually published including the entries of later authors describing events up to 1319. The Chronicle alleged that all Slavs originated "in the south". It stated that "in the Serbian nation there is a land, known as Croatia; in this country there was a chieftain whose name was Cech." This may well be in the nature of mythological folklore, an archetypal origin myth. But it is supported by recent geogenetics research.
