Lauenburg, Berenberg, 1819. With wood-engr. title-vignette showing the order of the garter emblem. 8 leaves calendarium, 435 pp., 48 pp. 8vo. Contemp. red grained morocco with gilt-stamped interlaced monogram GR (George Rex) surmounted by the crown, gilt classicist border around sides, flat spine gilt, edges gilt (somewhat rubbed). With engr. exlibris Earl of Munster Col. Fitz Clarence. Lauenburg, Berenberg, 1819. British-Hanoverian state calendar, which was published after an interruption of fourteen years in 1818 and again in 1819. It lists all members of the Royal family starting with King George III, civil servants, ambassadors of foreign countries, gives genealogies of all noble families in Europe, lists members of the military, of learned societies, of the church, etc., the complete postal services, police, dates of court sessions, and similar useful information. There is an old ms. inscription on first flyleaf "This Book once belonged to George 3rd". The America loosing monarch George III William Frederick, King of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover (1738-1820, reign 1760-1820) was a patron of science and learning, the nucleus of the British library goes back to him. The book comes from the collection of George Augustus Frederick FitzClarence, Earl of Munster (1794-1842), son of William IV, King of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover (reign 1830-1837). - Stamp on title, somewhat cropped at head, slightly browned.
