About This Item
1925 1st ed Knave of Hearts Maxfield Parrish Illustrated ART Fable L. Saunders
Louise Saunders, wife of editor Max Perkins, editor of Scribner's publishing, teamed with one of the most popular illustrators, Maxwell Perkins to create this unforgettable fable. Parrish worked for three years on the paintings for 'Knave of Hearts.' He built an elaborate castle model in his workroom for the illustrations of the book.
"Not until 1920 did [Parrish] agree to illustrate what was to become one of the most valuable children's books ever published, Louise Saunders's Knave of Hearts." (Alma Gilbert, Maxfield Parrish: The Masterworks, pp. 49-52)
This 1925 edition is filled with colorful illustrations and decorative painting cover boards.
