About This Item

London England: Historical Publications Ltd. Very Good/Good. 1997. First Edition. Cloth. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall Quarto 0948667451 Hardcover Hardcover. First Edition. Kingston Past. Slight shelf wear to edges of D/J. Kingston has had a unique history. It is possibly the place on the Thames where Caesar first crossed in his expedition to conquer Britain. It is the town in which the Saxon kings were crowned. And it is one of only four royal boroughs in the country. It was, bedore assimilation into Greater London, the county town of Surrey, and the venue for one of its major markets. The author not only deals with the conventional chronicle of events from earliest times, but writes at length about Kingston's contribution to car and aircraft manufacture, and its unusual role in the development of cinema. She describes also the concentration of boat makers and boat users that once dominated the riverside. All is not sweetness and light, however, for she devotes a whole chaper to 'malodorous' Kingston, describing how the tow acquired an unwanted notoriety. Illustrated. 144 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.) .
