No publisher. 1905. Unique calligraphic manuscript, apparently unpublished. (9.6 x 6.3 inches). Hand written manuscript in black ink with red initial letters and gold and blue decorations throughout. Title and first word on the first text page are also written in gold. Twenty fine hand made paper leaves (made by O. W. Paper & Arts Co. Ltd, and with their watermark) with untrimmed edges, sixteen with written text, bound in full white vellum binding with three red ties through both boards. Neat inscription (C. M. S from J. F. S, Christmas. AD 1907) on front blank leaf. A beautiful item. ----- Mary Elizabeth Shipley was a prolific author in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, of mainly religious novels including:- Little Helpers 1876, Legend of St. Christopher 1877, Bernard Hamilton: Curate of Stowe 1880, Palm Branches 1890, A Desolate Shore 1884, Cousin Deborah's Whim. 3 vols. 1878, An English Church History For Children 1905. among many others.

The books are undated but Geofrey Beare's bibliography of W. Heath Robinson dates this edition to 1913 and is a smaller version of the magnificent large format 1904 Grant Richards edition. The Studley Press wreath and name is stamped in gilt to the bottom of the spine. Decorative grape and leaf border within double gilt ruled border on boards. Gilt stamped facsimile of the author's signature in the middle. Top edge gilt. Printed endpapers with the Studley Press wreath and wording "Made in England by Studley Press, Ewell: Surrey". A fine, bright copy.  -----  This Studley Press edition is not recorded in De Waal or Green and Gibson. A rare variant in a highly decorative binding and in fine condition.

"The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.

Ikebana Arranging Images; Kamata, Soseke, 1950's. A nice publication given to Julia Jane Jeffers Dodge while here husband was helping Japan recover after the war. Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.
