About This Item

New York: Kingfisher, 2002. First. Hardcover. Near Fine; bumped corners/Very Good; two-inch closed tear in corner, shelf wear. First edition. This charming and well-illustrated book is in essence a small library of classic children's tales. Featuring excerpts from over 30 classic stories, parents will delight in sharing tales such as The Wind in the Willows, Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, and many more. Each story contains illustrations by different illustrators - some stories, such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, include reproductions of the original illustrations, while others, like My Side of the Mountain, were newly illustrated for this volume. In addition to the black-and-white and full-color illustrations, the pages of each story are decorated with colorful illustrated borders reflecting the theme or characters of the story. The borders lend a nice sense of composition, and the cover image of classic characters including Pippi Longstocking, Pinocchio, and Black Beauty serves as the perfect indicator of the reading pleasure to be found within.
