Based on unrestricted access to the royal archives at Windsor, Ziegler charts Edward's course from prince of Wales, king, governor of the Bahamas, and effective exile as the Duke of Windsor. Edward is presented as a charming lightweight lacking the discretion and sense of proportion to lead; Wallis Simpson is presented unfavourably as ruthless, shallow, and greedy. Octavo (225 x 147 mm). Contemporary brown half morocco by Maltbys of Oxford, twin red labels, gilt ornaments in compartments, grey textured cloth sides, blue endpapers, top edge gilt; original dust jacket bound at rear. Recent bookplate of Greek shipping executive Michael Matantos to front pastedown. A fine copy.
