About This Item

Random House, 1993. Hardcover. Very Good +/Fine. Stated 1993 Edition ( late Twentieth Century), with publishers correct (for issue year) number line for a First Edition (per McBrides ID of First Editions), for Random House, numbers 2-9 on copyright page. This is a FACSIMILE Edition of the 1975 issue put out by publisher. (NO price on front jacket flap) NO Book Club markings, at all, so presume NOT a book club edition. Only two books listed on back list: The Broken Place (1968) and The Killer Angels (1974). Map end-papers with several b/w maps throughout. Two upper page tips creased; and a small previous owner address label on front free end-paper. Book spine fabric has a lengthwise shallow crease - not impacting integrity of volume. Dust jacket has a wonderful b/w photo of author on rear panel. 374 Pages. (NOT later 400 pages). Mylar protected jacket.

Synopsis

The Killer Angels is a historical novel by Michael Shaara that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975. The book tells the story of four days of the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War: June 30, 1863, as the troops of both the Union and the Confederacy move into battle around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and July 1, July 2, and July 3, when the battle was fought. The story is character driven and told from the perspective of various protagonists.

Reviews

On Mar 26 2017, a reader said:
Brilliant depiction of various characters, from the historically pre-eminent (Lee, Chamberlain) to the minor (Spy) to the fictional participants at Gettysburg. Provides a psychological profile of those who made this hallowed ground.
