, Notes: The first two volumes are dedicated to the study of Persia's geography, agriculture, commerce, industry, and art, as well as its political, military and religious customs. There were only 500 copies of the first edition published. D'Allemagne was an archivist of the library of Arsenal. He travelled to Persia and Russian Turkistan in 1899, and again in 1907 accompanied by Jean Vinchon, who took a number of interesting photographs and field notes that served as the basis of D'Allemagne's book. The route of this scientific mission passes through Kiev, Odessa, Vladikavkaz, Tiflis, Baku, Krasnovodsk. The objective is the archaeological study of Transcaspian monuments and of Turkestan. It will bring together an important ethnographic collection, in particular Persian rugs and ceramics. Returning in 1907 in the company of Jean Vinchon, he visited the towns of Khiva and the surroundings of his oasis. He donated to the Louvre a fragment of a funerary stele brought back from Samarkand. Very nice copies with oriental bindings designed by Jean Tabourier and produced by Canape.
