About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, [1952]., 1952. First edition. First edition. Author's second book. In our experience the author's most elusive title. Fine, bright copy in dust jacket with minor wear to the spine ends and the author's name in red on the spine is lightly sunned. The woman next door has been found dead at the bottom of the cellar stairs, and her death is to affect the five members of the Ayres household as much as her life had. Filmed in 1959 by Claude Chabrol using the title A DOUBLE TOUR (retitled as Leda and Web of Passion for U. S. release). Crime writer Edward D. Hoch says "A book of near-classic stature, curiously overlooked by most critics.." Scarce, and the most difficult to find of the author's books in collectible condition.
