Beirut, Lebanon: Dar Al-Kitab Al-Arabi (Arab Book House) Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Large trade paperback bound in boldly colored pictorial wrappers. Text entirely in Arabic. 397 pages. Illustrated with line drawings throughout the text. Edited by Asham Abu Al-Nasr. A mid twentieth century reprint edition, no date of publication given, though there is a note that this is a special edition derived from a manuscript copy. "Kalila and Dimna comprises a collection of moral fables and fables about birds and animals, Kalila and Dimna being the names of two foxes." The present story is actually the third iteration, the story having originated in India and later translated and added to, in Persian, until Al Manfaluti translated it into Arabic in the sixth century, further altering it. From then it was translated into Hebrew in the thirteenth century. The tale has be translated into Ethiopian, Malay, Mongolian, Greek, and many European languages. No previous ownership marks. No spine crease. Minor toning to text pages, mainly at extremities. A tight, sound, unmarked vintage copy. Very good. Text in Arabic.
