Wurzburg: Christian Weiss, 1840. First edition. Hardcover. Publisher's black morocco backed pictorial printed boards. Very good. Folio, 37.5 x 28 cm. Lithographed title page and 47 exquisite hand-colored lithograph plates that literally shimmer, Austrian military costume and regimental flags that include a host of nationalities under the authority of the Austro-Hungarian Empire -- German, Hungarian, Austrian Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery Regiments. These fine plates are from Eckert's larger series of German federal armies. The sheet count and price of this separate volume written in ink on the publisher's portfolio cover: 498 Blatt (i.e.leaves, including the title and 47 plates.) COLAS 935. Boards rubbed, light toning and finger soiling, but with bright colors and gum arabic; each plate with artist's blindstamp at lower margin.
