Kubuki, a form of traditional Japanese drama of highly stylized song, mime & dance, was initially performed by women in early 17th century --- by century's end, actors were only male. Typically scenes extracted from historical narratives, full appreciation presumes knowledge of the story at large which this excellent volume provides.
