All edges gilt, coated yellow endpapers, frontispieces with tissue guards, vignette title-pages, notes, table, index, folding color map. The edges and corners are lightly worn, vol. 1 is a little cocked, there is a previous owner's paper glued to the front endpaper of vol. 1, there are some notes neatly written in fountain pen at the end of vol. 2, and a few minor notes in pencil. Ogden- Vol. 4- with two. Vol.1- heavier wear to corners esp. bottom front corner, nick to top edge of text block. Vol. 2- front top corner a bit more worn. Three years earlier, Churchill's Conservatives had been soundly defeated in the General Election at the end of the war. Churchill would head opposition to the Labour Government until the General Election of 1951, which returned the Conservatives to majority and Churchill to the office of Prime Minister. At the 69th Annual Conservative Party Conference, Churchill delivered a 65-minute address to a crowd of about 2,500 in the Pier Pavilion, Llandudno, Wales. Spine with gilt thick and thin ruled and piped lines and oval centre pieces. Red morocco label, gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Edges a bit rubbed and bumped and small amount of chipping to the edges of the label, not affecting the lettering, but generally a very good copy.
