An internally clean, bright copy with spine ends rubbed and other edges showing light wear, in original color pictorial dust jacket (chipped at edges, rear panel damp-stained, some light soiling and wear, and evidence of tape removed from bottom of spine). Inscribed by the author, Jean Craighead George, and the artist, John Schoenherr, on the dedication page, and signed by the artist, John Schoenherr, on the jacket and the front cover of the book.
First edition. 1973 Newbery Medal Winner! To her small Eskimo village, she is known as Miyax; to her pen-pal in San Francisco, she is Julie. When her home life becomes intolerable, Miyax runs away and finds herself lost in the Alaskan wilderness. Adopted by a pack of wolves, Miyax struggles to survive by copying the ways of the pack, soon growing to love her new wolf family. But when she finds her way back to civilization, Miyax is torn between her old and new lives: is she Miyax of the Eskimos — or Julie of the wolves?
Synopsis
Julie of the Wolves is a children's novel by Jean Craighead George, published in 1972, about a young Yupik girl experiencing the changes forced upon her culture from outside. There are two sequels, Julie and Julie's Wolf Pack.
