I have received my order of JUDGMENT NIGHT by C.L. Moore, and I must say it's a pretty book in the Gnome Press first edition. This is the first book by C.L. Moore to be published by Gnome Press, a fact I did not realize until I compared it to SHAMBLEAU AND OTHERS, another book from Gnome Press by the same author. During her life, C.L. Moore became one of the most influential women authors writing for the pulp magazines during the 1920's. Her story SHAMBLEAU is an amazing translation of the medusa myth into a science fiction story, and one which I found to be interesting for her introduction of the dour antihero of the spaceways Northwest Smith. This book, JUDGMENT NIGHT, collects five of the short novels she wrote as a young woman. Later on in collaboration with her husband Henry Kuttner, C.L. Moore wrote many fine tales in the genre. Try the book in the Dell paperback if you don't want to spend a lot. I was lucky to pick up the first edition at around 25 dollars.
