Text block tight; only marking: gift inscription to former owner on half title page and, only on one page, page 24, light foxing. Glossy paper; in addition to a detailed narrative, contains many black & white, sepia toned, and several colored photographs, maps, illustrations. Many photographs full page size or two page spread. Dust jacket very good with rubbing to corners and several small closed tears. * From the back jacket, ""explores every aspect of their [African American] legacy, born in sadness and suffering but transformed into both a rich heritage and an influential force in shaping the world's history...""
