[6x8.5"]; Light Blue cloth covers with white lettering on a dark blue field on spine and front, blue and white lined diamond patterns on cover; 884 pp., chapter and other illustrations in text; Minor soiling and shelf wear to covers and edges, darkening of top edges and spine, small white spot on back cover, prior owner ink signature and date on front endpaper. Irma Rombauer [1877-1962] was and still is a major figure in American cooking. The Joy of Cooking was first issued on 1931 and is still in print. This is the war rationing edition with added chapters sugarless and sugar-saving recipes, and meat stretching, substitutes and supplementary dishes.

Synopsis

Written by Irma Starkloff Rombauer, The Joy of Cooking was first tested and illustrated by her daughter, Marion Rombauer Becker. Subsequently it was revised and enlarged through Marion?s efforts and those of her architect husband John Becker. Their sons?Ethan, with his Cordon Bleu and camping experiences, and Mark, with his interest in natural foods?have reinforced Joy in many ways.
