About This Item

Constable, London, 1966. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. xviii, 430pp. Black cloth lettered in silver at the spine. Illustrated with sixteen photographs and manuscript reproductions. Binding cocked with a ridge to the backstrip. Endpapers lightly toned and spotted with a little more spotting to two or three preliminary and concluding leaves. A good copy in somewhat chafed and edgeworn non-price-clipped dust wrapper, with some nicking and unsightly accompanying creasing to the edges, and several tiny slivers of loss. A dual biography of Julian Bell (the son of Clive and Vanessa Bell) and John Cornford (the great-grandson of Charles Darwin), both of whom where killed while on active service in the Spanish Civil War..
