Illustrator: John White. About the author, advertisement, appendix. The text is illustrated with black-and-white reproductions of contemporary illustrations. Illustrated end pages. Brick coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured insert to the front panel, and, within that insert gilt coloured illustration and titles. Black coloured insert to the back strip, and again gilt coloured titles within the insert and to the lower back strip edge. John White was the principal surgeon of the first colony at Botany Bay. He not only detailed the trip out with the first Fleet but also the first excursions of discovery, general running of a struggling colony and meetings with aborigines.
