Moderate tanning to pages with heavier tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Pen inscriptions to front endpaper and tape residue to endpapers and pastedowns. Binding is loose and visible foxing and tanning to text block edges. Front hinge is cracked with exposed netting. Boards have visible rubbing and moderate bumping to corners. Fair crushing to spine ends and book is forward leaning. Unclipped jacket with visible edge wear and rubbing. There is visible tearing to corners, edges and spine ends and splitting to joints.

Among his many accomplishments and triumphs, Pope John XXIII (1881-1963) is celebrated for convening the Second Vatican Council, commonly regarded as the most important event in religious history since the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century.
