About This Item

Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1910. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". Various. A uncommon edition of the diary the notable author and poet Walter Scott kept between 1825 and 1832. Often considered as one of the finest diaries in the English language, Scott's Journal records the financial disaster which overtook the author at the beginning of 1826, and the efforts he made over the next seven years to pay off his debts by writing bestselling books. Taken from the original manuscript kept at Abbotsford House, the country house owned by the author. This copy contains a frontispiece plate and decorative title page. In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally generally smart. Slightly bumped to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight wear to boards and spine. Slightly rubbed to joints. Hinges tender. Internally, generally firmly bound, strained in places. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd to first and last few pages. Very Good
