NY: Harper & Brothers, 1863. 1st state of the 1st ed. Hardcover. Very Good. 337p. plus (10)p. publisher's adverts. Original blindstamped cloth. 20 cm. Spine slightly sloped. Backstrip moderately faded, with some fraying at ends. Front and back covers lightened near backstrip. Bookplate of "Boston Silk and Woolen Mills" (which indicates that the book could be borrowed by any employee). "The following diary was kept in the winter and spring of 1838-1839, on an estate consisting of rice and cotton plantations, in the islands at the entrance of the Altamaha, on the coast of Georgia." [Preface].
