Illustrator: Photographic and Illustrations. preface by compiler, foreword by Lenore Hershey, Editor-in-Chief, Ladies' Home Journal (1973 -- ), acknowledgements and index. Black-and-white illustrated frontispiece showing a young woman using a very early telephone. The text is illustrated with copious black-and-white photographs, cartoons, illustrations and the occasional line drawing. Also included is the very occasional colour photograph or illustration. Beige coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with red and black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. A look at the history of Ladies' Home Journal, from its inception in the late 19th century up to time of printing the book. It looks at society, fashion, people, travel, world events and mores (and the changes of same) over the history of the magazine. What is of interest is the changing fashions, with quite an amazing illustrations, through the years, including some designs by Christian Dior, Chanel and other couturiers. Rubbing to the backstrip edges, book corners and lower book edges. Age toning of the textblock edges with original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners with rubbing of the book edges and panels. There is a 2" tear, with creasing, to the top right hand corner of the rear panel. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall.
