New York: Lee and Shepard Publishers. Very Good. 1871. Hardcover. Brown cloth with blind stamped decoration. 6" x 4". Frontispiece with tissue guard. Pp 163. Illustrated. The 5th book in the Springdale Stories series re-issued in 1886 as "The Golden Rule" stories. All extremities worn slightly cocked. Missing the (yellow) ffep. Some pencil markings inside front & back cover. Samuels taught prior to her marriage to E. A. Samuels a naturalist and writer. The Springdale Stories series was written shortly after her marriage and attracted a fair amount of attention. According to Richard Darling (The Rise of Children's Book Reviewing in America) reactions were mixed. The books offered "exciting reading that would appeal to children - and were potentially injurious for the same reason. " ; 8vo .
