On Mar 13 2020, a reader said:
When his parents are killed by four hardcases, Johnny vows to track them down and kill them. But at fifteen he knew there was a lot to learn before he could successfully do that. The first thing he did was learn to shoot and draw a gun faster than any man in the West....Frank Gruber's stories take off like a bullet and keep right on going just as fast to their conclusion. If you like that type of book--fast-action, quick pace, bullets and gunplay--then this is book for you. That was Mr. Gruber's style. He has been affectionately called, The King of the Pulps, a type of magazine of years past which specialized in that type of book. His screenplays he wrote for the movies in both the western and the mystery/crime genres are that way as well. And he wrote some notable screen plays including Terror by Night the Sherlock Holmes story of the 1940's starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. He was the creator of Tales of Wells-Fargo, the television series starring Dale Robertson.
