Paperback (spine and cover foxed, corners bit worn, foxing to page margins, 1 page with some water damage, otherwise interior unmarked).

Size: 10 1/2" x 9 1/4" (27cm x 24cm).
Thomson is mostly known for his early photographs of countries and people in the Far East. In 1862 he went to Singapore, and from there visited Malaya, Sumatra, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and India. Subsequently he went to Siam (Thailand) and took photos of the King of Siam and members of the royal court and government. He also took photos of the King of Cambodia and members of the Cambodian Royal Family. He visited and extensively photographed Angkor Wat. From there he continued to Phnom Penh and Saigon. In 1868 he was based in Hong Kong and travelled throughout China, visiting Canton, Peking, Shanghai, the Great Wall, Formosa (Taiwan) and he went up the Yangtze river.
