Fair. 19 x 13 cm. 406pp. First edition of this scarce Du Bois title with "Published September, 1909" on copyright page and no additional printings noted. Portrait frontispiece of Brown. Bound into blue cloth, gilt spine lettering. Ex-library copy with bookplate and pocket of "The Minneapolis Athenaeum" on front free endpaper, stamp on top and bottom foredge. Gutters are cracked and tender; the textblock feels nearly loose from the spine. Fraying to head and tail of spine. Biography of the abolitionist. Part of Jacobs Publisher's American Crisis Biographies series, edited by Ellis Paxton Oberholzer.
