Amstelaedami et Lipsiae, apud Arksteum et Merkum, 1757.. FIRST EDITION 1757, Latin text, in 2 parts with separate pagination, Part II has a divisional title reading: Johannis Alstorphii JC. Occupationes Tusculanae. Seu de Hastis Veterum, this title also precedes the text in Part I. Small 4to, approximately 205 x 155 mm, 8 x 6 inches, title vignette, 25 full page engravings, 28 smaller engravings, all of weapons and warriors of Roman times, lances, spears, javelins, chariots, cavalry, boats and many of ancient coins showing these things, pages: [4], 1-179, [2], 1-140, bound in full antique calf, rebacked to style with raised bands, gilt rules and gilt lettering, all edges speckled red, original endpapers retained. Covers slightly scuffed, corners slightly worn with board showing at tips, endpapers slightly browned at edges, a few pages lightly age-browned, slight offsetting from some illustrations, otherwise a very good clean tight copy. Ancient warfare and weapons by the Dutch antiquary Jan Alstorph (circa 1680-1719). A HEAVY BOOK WHICH WILL REQUIRE EXTRA POSTAGE COSTS. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE.
