Holzdeckelband der Zeit mit Pergamentbezug und 2 Metallschließen, 3 Bll., 363 S., 4 Bll. VD17 1:091201K. Caillet 10002 (falsch: 1659). Dünnhaupt2 3821, 13.I. Graesse VI, 315. Ferguson II, 339. Poggendorff II, 838. Erste Ausgabe (eine von mehreren seltenen Druckvarianten). Am Ende des Vorworts ein Chronogramm mit Datierung 1666. - Das letzte von Schott zu Lebzeiten publizierte Werk. Posthum erschien noch das Organum mathematicum (1668). Auf dem Kupfertitel verso eine große handschriftliche Notiz: "Nota Lector Benevole / Huius Operis / Auctorem esse / R. P. Casparum Schottum / e Soc: J: / professorem mathematica / Herbipolensem." Im Anhang die Schrift: "Diatribe de prodigiosis crucibus" von Schotts Lehrer Athanasius Kircher. - Sammlung von 300 naturwissenschaftlichen Belustigungen, Experimenten, Zaubertricks und anderen Kuriosa, "angeregt von Harsdörffers Philosophischen und mathematischen Erquickstunden" (Vollrath, H.-J. Die Welt des Würzburger Mathematikers Kaspar Schott (1608-1666), S. 18. "Als Jesuit und Hochschullehrer wollte Schott mit seinen Büchern jedoch nicht nur kurzweilige Unterhaltung bieten, sondern humanistische Bildung und umfassendes Wissen vermitteln (ebd. S. 23). - Einband etwas fleckig, Pergamentbezug auf dem Vorderdeckel teils wellig. Titelseiten mit ein paar Knickspuren, der Drucktitel mit sorgsam ergänzter Fehlstelle (ohne Textverlust) und kl. Tintenfleck sowie der Jahreszahl 1666 von alter Hand. Durchgehend leicht braunfleckig, meist an den Rändern, teils auch Bräunungen im Satzspiegel. Die ersten Textseiten und der Anhang mit blassem Wasserrand. Vorderer Spiegel im oberen Eck mit Rasurspur.
