About This Item

Hutchinson, London, 1935. 4th Impression. Hardcover. Good Condition/Poor. Here ends the second of the three novels on the historian Flavius Josephus . The novel "Josephus" was originally intended to contain only two parts. The second, final volume was sketched out to the end & a part of it written in 1932, when the first published. But when the National Socialists looted my house in March, 1933, they destroyed the manuscript of that final volume, as well as the historical material that was also there. To restore the lost part in its original form proved to be impossible. I had learned a great deal more about the theme of "Josephus" - Nationalism & world-citizenship - the material burst its earlier mould, & I was compelled to divide it into three volumes." - L.F. “The second volume of the trilolgy of which Josephus was the first. Translated from the German by Willa & Edwin Muir. Publishing Date - 1935. Dust Jacket is in acceptable condition only. It has numerous chips, tears and some foxing, there is also hole in the jacket on the spine. The jacket is not clipped. I should also add that although the title page says 4th impression, the jacket says 5th impression. The book itself has some foxing on the edges & the front & rear endpapers. The text is mostly clean & unfoxed. Edges also have a few marks. 600 pages, then follows the publisher's 1935 Autumn offerings. Size: 180mm - 250mm. 600 pages. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos. Category: Fiction; Italy; History. Inventory No: 18997. .
