FIRST EDITION of this early novel by Gérard d'Houville (pen name of Marie de Régnier, whose maiden name was Marie de Heredia, the second of José María de Heredia's three daughters). The author was famous for her novels, her poetry, and her sexual escapades and appetites, both of which have given rise to considerable speculation. From a large-paper issue of only 60 copies, this is ONE OF ONLY FIFTY NUMBERED COPIES PRINTED ON FINE DUTCH LAID PAPER. 8vo. Original wraps. ENTIRELY UNCUT. Wraps somewhat worn at extremities. Spine cocked. Internally FINE AND BRIGHT.
