Fully illustrated. Dust jacket in an archival mylar sleeve. Index. 144 pages. 11 x 8.5 inches. Author Edward D. Nudelman, owner of the world's largest personal collection of Jessie Willcox Smith's works, has compiled this pictorial volume primarily for the reader's visual enjoyment. It features 105 color illustrations as well as a few photographs of the artist. However, his comprehensive text offers the reader invaluable insight into the character and career of this great American artist. Nudelman discusses Smith's early artistic training and the development of her unique talent under the tutelage of her mentor, the renowned illustrator Howard Pyle. He also chronicles the early years at The Ladies' Home Journal, where she began her career in the advertising department.
