About This Item

London: Hurst, Robinson, and Co., 1824. First edition thus, translated by J.H. Wiffen and limited to 250 copies. Two volume set [complete], Royal Octavo bound in later nineteenth century full forest green pebbled leather, raised spines with gilt lettering and decoratiion. All edges gilt, silk ribbon markers bound-in each volume. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Tasso and a facsimile of his handwriting, along with twenty-two engraved vignettes. Book plate of former owner inside front cover of each volume. Leather bindings show minimal wear at tips and and extremities. Books are solidly bound with strong hinges and no marking or foxing internally. Green leather on spines as toned to light brown as per usual. A hansome set of this very scarce edition of Tasso's epic poem, first published in 1581. Scans set on request. A very good+ set.. First Thus. Full-Leather. Very Good+/Not Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
