About This Item

London: Robert Jennings, 1835. Book. Fine. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The complete Spanish series, Royal octavo [24 cm] large-paper issue. Five volumes, large 8vo. (9.5"x6") in original matching green decorative stamped and gilt morocco, with raised bands to spines. All edges gilt; yellow endpapers. Each volume with 21 steel engravings, except Portugal, which calls for18, (including extra title-page) on India paper, mounted to card. The first two volumes also each contain 10 woodcuts, in-text, with additional proofs, bound-in, on India paper. According to the publisher's ad in 1834, a "few copies" each year were done in the larger Royal Octavo (instead of small, or Demi, octavo) with the India paper proofs, and priced at 2/12/6, instead of 1/1/0. Some superficial scuffing, edge and corner wear to covers. Otherwise clean, tight and unmarked -- internally very bright, clean and unfoxed. The third volume contains ads and literary notices, at rear, for Volume I & II in the "Spanish Series". Three ads at rear of fifth volume. A very neat, sound and handsome set. .
