About This Item
Paris: Les Papetiers Réunis, 22 rue du 4 Septembre, [1927-1928]. [24] pages. 10¾ x 8¼ inches. Black wrappers with color paste-ons to both covers; cord bound. Printed on two different paper stocks. Text in French and English. Scattered pencil annotations. Some creasing and short closed edge tears to wrappers and a few leaves; very good.
French Jazz Age women's fashion catalog from the House of Jean Patou, featuring items from the 1928 Winter and Demi-Saison collections. Both collections feature dresses, shirts, sweaters, and coats and wraps, the latter articles always associated with a hat, bonnet, or coiffure (headpiece).
The catalog includes some English-language text-including running tailpiece ads for the house's proprietary "Huile de Chaldée," the first sun tan lotion-and this warning from fashion designer Jean Patou, protective of his brand: "I intend by all means in my power to sue any copyists and their accomplices that I may discover."
With two art deco-styled ads for the House of Jean Patou's bronzing oil (sun tan lotion) and the perfumes "Amour Amour" and "Que Sais-Je," the House of Jean Patou's first perfumes, both designed by perfumier Henri Alméras (1892-1965) who created the house's iconic perfume "Joy" the following year. Plus a full page ad for Costa of Paris: "All our Walking and Evening Shoes are Creations by Costa."
