Extensively illustrated with fine engravings, each present as a hand-tinted example followed by a black and white version.Heavy wear to interior and exterior hinges, otherwise near fine condition. Rare.Théophile Gautier (1811-1872) was a French poet, dramatist, novelist, journalist, and art and literary critic. Jean and Jeannette, one of his lesser-known works, was first published in1846. Adolphe Lalauze (1838-1906) was a prolific French etcher who illustrated many books. .
