About This Item
London: Smith, Elder and Co, 1848. First edition. First edition. Superb full crushed morocco (brown) with bold gilt strap-work and flower design on both covers, hearts covering whole of both covers and spine, by De Sauty (signed 'De Sauty' on front turn-in). A wonderful binding by De Sauty (1870-1949), active in London from 1898-1923, worked for Riviere & Son as well as the Hampstead Bindery. Binding hinges skillfully repaired, some wear to spine, otherwise near fine and distinctively Art Nouveau binding.
