SIGNED presentation from Irving to motorcycle legend Cook Neilson, who took the photo of Irving that was used for the dust jacket of the book: "For Stepp and Cook - with my appreciation and affection - John Irving, April 1, 1998." Together with AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED by Irving on his stationery to Neilson laid in, in which Irving says that Neilson's photos will also be used on the UK edition, and jokes that another photo, to be used for the American and Canadian editions is more flattering, because it doesn't show Irving's face. Limited edition of 125 copies, bound in snakeskin-style folding case, protected by matching slipcase (some wear), 340 mm x 265 mm, 130 unbound pages as issued, 21 plates, printed on imperial Japan paper, an excellent copy.

New York: E. P. Dutton, 1943. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Book condition is Very Good; with a Very Good dust jacket. Edge wear to jacket, including a few chips. Two scuffs to paper at jacket rear panel. Minor foxing. Crease to bottom corner of a few pages. Text is clean and unmarked, frontispiece. First Edition is stated, first issue jacket present. Signed and inscribed by the author, Woody Guthrie, on the front end page. An inscription as vibrant and humble as would be expected of Guthrie; written upside down, one can picture the book being handed to Guthrie and him signing before rotating the book. Guthrie tells the recipient, Marshall, "I hope you find some real 'fight' in this book..." The inscription is dated to April 1943, a few weeks after the book's publication. It would be difficult to understate Guthrie's influence on American folk music and as well as American popular music. 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

Signed by the author at the colophon and numbered 4 of 5 (presentation copies in the limited first edition), this book contains a bound-in original oil painting by Charles Bukowski, still protected with the original tissue guard; laid in is Black Sparrow Press Broadside/Flyer No. 7, itself signed by Bukowski and numbered 8/100. Crisp, bright pages; green boards show gentle sunning along the head edges, and spine plate is also mildly sunned, but red cloth spine is fresh; even the original acetate outer cover is near fine, with a touch of finish wear.; Signed by Author.

Signed by both Heather Child and Dorothy Colles, and includes a rather lengthy personal letter from Dorothy Colles (written on a piece of stationary with an image of one of her works of art printed on it) to a Steven Nunn. Very rare; we have not seen another signed copy of this book, let alone one signed by both authors and including a personal letter.Publishing house is listed as Charles Scribner's Sons New York on the inside, and has Bell on the spine of the dust jacket and the boards. Publishing location given as Great Britain. SBN is 684130939.Dust jacket is present with a bit of wear and minor tears on the edges. It is clipped. No stickers/residue.
