About This Item
Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Company, 1951. First Edition. 399pp. Octavo [24 cm] Tan cloth with gilt stamped leather labels on the front board and backstrip. Near fine. James Moyle (1858-1946) was a prominent Mormon on the national political scene working in both the Woodrow Wilson (Assistant Secretary to the Treasury) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (Commissioner of the U.S. Custom) administration. In addition he was the founder of the Utah Democratic Party and the President of the Eastern States Mission (1928-1933). This biography was written by the future LDS Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, based on the writings and research of John Henry Evans.
"Like all good biographies, James Henry Moyle creates a personal relationship between reader and writer as tense and as closely mutual as that between friends. Gordon B. not only discloses Moyle's lovable qualities but also the strength by which he courageously mastered and used them. Gordon's graphic and discerning insight of the long and useful life has the excitement of a thriller, in addition to its historical interest." - Deseret News (12/23/1951).
