About This Item
Philadelphia: Published By Keller & Bright. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1849. Paperback. Color Illustrations; Width: 6.75" Height: 8" softcover. "Jack the Giant Killer" is a British fairy tale and legend about a plucky (presumably) young adult who slays a number of giants during King Arthur's reign. The tale is characterized by violence, gore and blood-letting. Giants are prominent in Cornish folklore, Breton mythology and Welsh Bardic lore. Pamphlet from "Grandfather Lovechild's Nursery Stories" is bound in its original printed paper wrappers with a later cloth reinforcement to the binding. The wrappers show heavy age toning, spotting, and edge wear. The binding is sound. The pages show moderate age toning and occasional spotting and moisture marking. This work is profusely illustrated with nine hand-colored wood engravings by Gilbert & Gihon, and Croome & Brightly, from original designs by Darley. Antique Chidlren's Literature Hand-Colored Engravings Illustrations Darley .
