A first edition copy of Hemingway's posthumously published novel, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. First edition, first impression.In the original unclipped dust wrapper. 'Islands in the Stream' is the first of the posthumously published novels by Hemingway, and had been intended to revive his reputation as a writer following 'Across the River and Into the Trees'. Hemingway worked on this novel from 1950-1951, and it was found by his wife after his death. This novel encompasses three stories across three life-stages of its main protagonist, Thomas Hudson. These three acts are titled 'Bimini', 'Cuba', and 'At Sea'. Ernest Hemingway (1889-1961) was an American novelist and journalist who had an immeasurable influence on twentieth century fiction. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954, and is well-known for countless novels such as 'A Farewell to Arms', 'The Sun Also Rises', and 'The Old Man and the Sea'. Collated, complete. In the original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent. Very small amount of fading to margins. Facsimile of author's signature in gilt on front board. A bit of spotting to text block. Dust wrapper has a bit of edgewear, particularly around spine of front wrap, but remains bright and clean. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with the odd spot to the first few pages. Near Fine
Synopsis
Islands in the Stream was published in 1970, nine years after Hemingway's death. Thomas Hudon is an painter and adventurer in the 1930s, and this tale documents his voyages from Bimini to antisubmarine action in Cuba and beyond.
