About This Item

London: Phoenix, 2002. xxiii, 405pp. Book clean, square, Spine firm. Leaves clean and unmarked. Illustrated card wrapper very good+. From the rear panel: "In December, 1995, Gilbert Bland was chased from a rare book room of John Hopkins University, clutching four 232-year-old maps. He turned out to be one of the greatest map thieves in history . . . Miles Harvey returns to the libraries whose collections were so depleted by Bland's thieving to try to fill the gaps in this enigmatic man's life. He meets the 'keeper's of the books', who go to extraordinary lengths to obtain and preserve the maps in their libraries; the brash, self-described 'biggest map-dealer of the twentieth-century'; and the closed community of dealers whose honourable world was shattered by Gilbert Bland." Includes Index. Book weight approx. 352g. (This book will post as a small parcel within Australia only, and postage charge will be reduced accordingly). Reprint. Softcover. Very Good+. 8vo - (approx. 19.5cm x 13cm).
