First UK edition, first printing, with "First published in Great Britain 1997 by Picador" and full number line beginning with "1" on copyright page. First-issue dust jacket with publisher's £16.99 price on front flap. Black cloth hardcover with silver lettering on spine. Black endpapers. 286 pages. NEAR FINE book in NEAR FINE dust jacket. Book is bright and clean, tight and square, with a lightly bumped top spine end extending to top edge of rear board and a hint of bumping to the bottom spine end and corner tips. Also some ink-like smudging on the top outer edge of the text block. Otherwise Fine, with a flawless interior with pages appearing unread. Dust jacket has just faint creasing at spine ends and the slightest touch of wear at the corner tips and is otherwise Fine. Bright and clean with no sunning, rubbing or tears. Jacket will come protected in a new archival mylar cover. .
