About This Item

Hutchinson, London, 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. 400 g; 192 pages, includes time charts, bibliography, index. Original dust jacket. Previous owner's name on front end page, rear panel of dust jacket has a pale stain, and minor rubbing of the edges; moisture line to the bottom of the dustwrapper from the underside. The term "generation" was used from antiquity until the beginning of the 19th century, for certain special biology studies in the field genetics. The present book deals with the history of investigations into generation between 1651 and 1828. The author is chiefly concerned with the interconnections between the factual discoveries on the one hand, and the theoretical opinions advanced by leading biologists on the other. She throws considerable light on the pressures and motives which influenced the scientists and determined their beliefs. -- front fold over blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
