About This Item

New York City, NY: Interview Publications/Andy Warhol, 1976. First Edition. First Printing.. Softcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. New York City, NY: Interview Publications/Andy Warhol, 1976. Softcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 50 pages. Rare Interview Magazine, Burt Reynolds, Andy Warhol, and Victor Hugo collectible item. A vintage copy of the February 1976 Magazine Issue, signed and dated by Victor Hugo. After all these years, the copy is intact and complete, not a page missing. It is worth pointing that out because as published, the magazine was a tabloid mess in its early days, and should not be confused with the post-Warhol Era edition, when the magazine's astonishing commercial success allowed and funded it to become a full-fledged, mainstream magazine, with elegant covers and high-quality, pristine-white stock paper. But: As originally conceived and designed by Warhol, this is the Real Thing: Tabloid Newspaper format. Each "trashy" doublespread is folded/creased in the middle, laid down flat one on top of the other, and folded/creased again as a bunch to comprise the whole magazine. The Burt Reynolds Cover by Andy Warhol is a beauty. Interviews by various journalists with various Zeitgeist celebrities. Cheaply produced on newsprint stock paper in NYC to normal standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Interview Magazine's "Burt Reynolds February 1976" Issue. Realized and assembled with the participation of Victor Hugo, the designer/artist who was a full-fledged member of the Warhol Factory inner circle. Named (by his parents) after the great French novelist, Victor was gifted, artistically, physically, sexually, and socially. Warhol did a (now-legendary) silkscreen painting of him and photographed him extensively. Today, he is probably best-known in popular culture as the hustler/lover/partner/destroyer of Halston, courtesy of his leading role in the Amazon biopic of the great fashion designer, brilliantly imitated and portrayed by Ewan MacGregor. In other words, Victor Hugo was the Real Thing, too: A major minor figure of the American Zeigeist when it mattered, that is, at the peak of the American Century. An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Interview Magazine, Burt Reynolds, Andy Warhol, and Victor Hugo collectors. This copy of the Interview Magazine February 1976 Issue is very boldly and beautifully signed and dated (in the year of publication) in black pen-marker on the Back Page by the artist: "Victor Hugo '76". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This Issue is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and publication-year dated copy of the Issue available online and is intact and complete, not a page missing. Please note: As originally conceived and designed by Warhol, Interview was supposed to be a "trashy" tabloid magazine, to be consumed then discarded, not to be preserved or stored. This copy was because of Victor Hugo's signature. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with black-and-white and color photographic plates. A fine copy.
